520 _aDom Denys Rutledge introduces a work, little knownto American readers, which has influenced theological and mystical writing for at least fourteen hundred years. It is, in effect, a synthesis of Christian teaching, particularly on the nature of the Church, in which science and religion, the other world and the values of the present world may be seen in their source and original harmony. Written before the division between Greek and Latin Churches, and later between Catholic and Protestant, it affords a convenient point from which to view later speculation and controversy in its true perspective. Apart from helping those interested in the current liturgical revival, this work will serve as a bridge to the understanding of Eastern, and particularly Hindu, religion. 'Unity' is the author's dominant theme: unity of a man within himself, unity with his world, unity with God.
