520 _aDr. Stolberg Acosta documents the history of a family, an island, and an art collection, all intertwined, and in so doing makes an important contribution to the cultural history of Puerto Rico from 1695 to present days. Within the narrative, Stolberg includes anecdotes, unpublished documents, and historical information on the objects, jewelry, and artworks that comprise the Acosta Collection. Richly illustrated with full-color photographs of some 150 pieces from the collection, this book is a welcome addition to the documentation of the island's history, especially the Spanish colonial period, when the Acosta's played a leading role in Puerto Rico's cultural and political affairs. Author Robert Stolberg-Acosta, the seventh heir to the Acosta Collection, is a psychiatrist in private practice who has chaired the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, where he teaches. He is also CEO of the Stolberg Group, a residential and commercial real-estate holding company. His lifelong interest in the arts has led him to membership on the boards of important cultural institutions in Puerto Rico such as the Teatro de la pera and the Corporacin de Artes Musicales, which oversees the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, the Casals Festival, and, previously, the Conservatory of Music. He is the founder of the Robert Stolberg Acosta Cultural Foundation, dedicated to the preservation of the Acosta family art collection and of the Museum of the Antillean Indian in Philadelphia --
