Booklist Review

Baridon and Eyler are senior staff members at the National Center for Higher Education whose work as professional trainers for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities requires that they share an office and travel together. In spite of some stilted terminology ("mixed-gender workplace"), the authors straightforwardly address the implications of their assertion that "a woman and a man working together are different from a same-sex business team sharing the identical experience." Going beyond their previous work, More than Friends, Less than Lovers: Sexual Attraction in the Workplace (1991), they now address workplace sex roles in general. Targeting managers, they cover everything from informal etiquette to corporate policy. They identify such problems as the glass ceiling and sexual harassment, attempt to separate "real" gender differences from "myth," and summarize relevant legislation and regulations. Baridon and Eyler offer dispassionate views on a sensitive topic. ~--David Rouse
