CHOICE Review

This study is an attempt to describe the personality of the entrepreneur by examining two factors: the stage of development of the business and its growth orientation. A unique methodology employing neural networks is used as a means of categorizing the sample. The authors take both a qualitative and quantitative approach in their research. Studies were conducted on five chief executive officers/entrepreneurs and their British businesses. Additionally, 26 business owners completed research questionnaires, thereby giving the authors a total of 31 CEOs from which to draw information and formulate conclusions. The book is well organized, the introduction is quite clear, and the review of literature is exceptional. The methodology is different, but plausible, and the sample is small and manageable for the reader. The terms used and style of presentation are straightforward; thus, most readers should have no problem following the authors. The book provides interesting reading and an outstanding resource for all students and scholars whose interests are small-business management or entrepreneurship.-S. D. Goldberg, University of New Haven
