Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:

Public international law concerns the growing body of international legal principles, norms and rules outside the coverage of private and conflict law. This guide includes primary and secondary sources of information in both general and specialized areas of public international law, as well as national "official" materials where appropriate. The book is divided into two parts, Part I referring to the evidentiary status of public international law materials and Part II embracing their substantive aspects. CHOICE Review

Although the two bibliographies at the heart of this work might be useful to undergraduate students of international law, the introductory matter (pp. xi-45) is so dense as to scare off those who cannot leap directly from the table of contents to the appropriate chapter. Neither the intended audience nor the scope of the work is clearly explained, while the note (p.3) that material on treaties, for instance, is not only in part I/B.i (treaties) but also in part II/C.ii (sources), is not reassuring. The index, recommended in that same note as an aid to dealing with these "classificatory inconsistencies," warns that subject entries are "at best summary" (p. 281). The first bibliography consists of both primary and secondary legal materials arranged by type, subdivided geographically where appropriate, while the second deals with secondary material divided by topic (law of international organizations, international transport law, etc.). Most entries are annotated clearly and concisely; material included ranges from general (Ulrich's, Dissertation Abstracts International) to very specific (Czechoslovakian textbooks on international law, entries #113-#115). Further revision might have been useful; recommended only for libraries supporting specialized programs in international law. Abstracts.-C. Teague, University of Vermont
