In this pioneering effort, the head of the International Baha'i Library in Haifa attempts to bring bibliographic control to a very elusive body of literature: English-language writings by and about the Baha'is. Plans exist for supplements to extend coverage from 1985. This supersedes Joel Bjorling's bibliography The Baha'i Faith (CH, Mar'86) and will be the standard work on the subject. The introduction outlines the Baha'i literature and each chapter has a brief but helpful preface. The numbered citations, some with descriptive annotations, are arranged alphabetically by main entry. The first six chapters are devoted to Baha'i writings; the remaining sections list secondary sources. Unfortunately, analytics for articles in Baha'i journals are not included, but they are for non-Baha'i journals. The section listing books that mention Baha'is is of limited value. Indexes by name, title, and subject. Undergraduates will find it frustrating that many publications are difficult to obtain; library locations for rare items would be welcome in future volumes.
