Library Journal Review

Estreno's series on contemporary Spanish plays includes these works by two of Spain's most exciting young playwrights. The English translations expertly capture the style and flavor of the original Spanish. Ara£jo's Vanzetti is based on letters written by the imprisoned Bartolomeo Vanzetti to his sister in Italy and offers disturbing insights into American justice, injustice, and prejudice during the period of the Sacco-Vanzetti trials. The four short plays by Pedrero explore relationshipsÄboth male/female and female/femaleÄwith emphasis on questions of gender and identity. Her language and themes are realistic and often disturbing. Both playwrights are exciting to read, and their works have proven highly popular with theater audiences in many countries. Highly recommended for contemporary theater collections in academic and public libraries.ÄHoward E. Miller, Rosary H.S., St. Louis (c) Copyright 2010.
