Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:

By focusing on the use of SPSS as a tool to doing social research - and not the be all and end all to the research problem - this book will be an invaluable resource for students learning about descriptive statistics and some topics in inferential statistics for the first time. It will provide students with a range of tools to help interpret data in the context of their research and to be appropriately selective in the choice of methods for handling data. Through its many features, concise content and overall clarity of writing this should be popular for students in a range of disciplines. It clearly explains the range of statistical techniques and their common applications and offers a useful evaluation of the context in which they should be applied.

Includes bibliographical references and index.

CHOICE Review

Antonius integrates basic descriptive and inferential statistics with research methodology through the use of the software package SPSS, with respect to the social and human sciences. The purpose of this synthesis is to enable students to use SPSS for data analysis and interpretation, and, ultimately, to learn how to write satisfactory statistical reports. The author uses numerous diagrams to establish relationships between concepts--not individual concepts, but networks of concepts. The end-of-chapter exercises encourage students to translate their quantitative results into plain English sentences. With completion of an introductory course in quantitative methods like the one Antonius outlines in this book, students should be able to explain the steps of social science research, understand quantitative methods in social science research, produce electronic data files, analyze the data using SPSS, and produce descriptive reports. No prerequisite of statistics or SPSS is necessary. ^BSumming Up: Recommended. Lower-division undergraduates; professionals. D. J. Gougeon University of Scranton
