The systematically revised third edition of the leading text on approaches and methods in political science features a considerable internationalization in both the team of contributors and the range of coverage and examples. About half the chapters are entirely new and the rest are substantially revised and updated.
Includes bibliographical references (p. 343-383) and index.
Now with substantial extra coverage of methodological issues and an additional chapter on the philosophy of politics, this widely-used text introduces students to the approaches and methods of political science.

CHOICE Review
Marsh (Australian National Univ.) and Stoker (Univ. of Southampton, UK) reunite to bring together a balanced group of recognized international scholars that contribute to this significantly updated third edition. This edition is strategically organized into two sections; the introduction of major political science paradigms is followed by an explanation of methodological approaches. New to this edition are chapters on political psychology, experimental methods, and challenges related to the development of research design. The final chapter pulls everything together for the reader by asking, "Why should political science care if its work is useful or used?" This discussion does not hide the arguable disconnect between theory and practice and resolves the "so what" question by including current scholarship on globalization, consumerism, institutional design, and ways to reengage people with politics. Readers will appreciate the accessibility of each chapter along with the further reading sections that guide them to key seminal works and scholars within those respective areas. A unified bibliography is welcomed and eliminates the redundancy of citations throughout the book. Summing Up: Recommended. Upper-division undergraduate and graduate collections. C.
