Resumen: Algorithms might sound like a complicated tech term, but don't be intimidated, people actually use them every day. Using accessible language and full-color photographs, this book simplifies algorithms in an easy-to-understand way. Readers will be amazed to learn that an algorithm is just a set of steps for computers to follow to get things done. STEM topics from the Next Generation Science Standards are emphasized throughout the text. Sidebars featuring key terms help readers grow their tech vocabulary, and fact boxes provide additional opportunities to learn.

School Library Journal Review

Gr 5-8-A comprehensive and well-explained introduction to the basic concepts of computing. Each title focuses on one aspect, fully exploring it and using analogies from everyday routines. The topics covered include algorithms, what they are and why they are needed; how programmers break problems down to manageable parts; teamwork; what a software designer does; the use of pseudocodes in preparation for coding; and good and bad societal repercussions. The use of photographs, diagrams, and color-blocked sidebars, as well as spot-on translation and text that addresses readers in first-person language, makes this series very accessible. -VERDICT A top addition for middle schoolers. © Copyright 2018.
