CHOICE Review

Prepared for the bicentennial of the Constitution, this guide to primary and secondary research cites legal treatises, periodical articles, and government documents published 1970 to 1986. Materials are arranged according to sections and amendments of the Constitution, listed in reverse chronological order, books preceding articles. There are also chapters that treat general texts, other bibliographies, and government documents, the last a selective list of significant Congressional publications. There are three indexes, by author, title, and subject. The authors made ``an exhaustive survey ... of legal indexes and other source materials''; Shepard's United States Citations: Statutes was used to identify Supreme Court cases related to the Constitution. Only significant articles treating frequently cited cases that focused on issues involved in a specific section of the Constitution were included. Kermit Hall's Comprehensive Bibliography of American Constitutional and Legal History, 1876-1979 (CH, Apr '85) concentrates on analytical, historical writings and is aimed at historians; Earlean McCarrick's U.S. Constitution: A Guide to Information Sources (CH, Jan '81) includes historical materials but is arranged under constitutional articles and amendments. Since this book is the most current and includes law review articles and government documents, it is most valuable to undergraduate libraries.-J. G. Packer, Central Connecticut State University
