Booklist Review

Geared to middle management, this study focuses on the shifting roles of library administrators and examines steps required to keep current with change. The author discusses how to design a library system in such a way that it is flexible enough to adapt to any sort of transition process, whether it is related to automation, networking, or redefined goals and objectives. Such issues as adapting to role expectations in a new organizational environment and choosing the right kind of staff for a changing library are addressed carefully and in admirable detail. Case studies provide concrete examples of problems caused by changes in the library environment, and the appendixes offer sample forms for evaluations, progress reports, and recognition of merit.
