Introduced by a historical overview of AIDS research, the 24 essays address the politics of AIDS, public schools' response to AIDS-infected students, AIDS and the blood supply, problems of financing AIDS patient care, and, in case studies mostly set in New York and San Francisco, provision of acute medical and community care services.
