CHOICE Review

Healthy Aging offers health information for consumers obtained from selected interviews with health professionals and documents or excerpts of publications issued by government and other agencies. The editor and advisory board do not identify their own qualifications for selecting basic information needed to maintain healthy aging. No chapter has a byline by one of the many health researchers whose work is quoted. The sizeable book covers a wide range of interesting material from midlife issues to minority concerns to nutrition, exercise, and avoiding medical quackery. One problem is that no update is promised: the publisher of the series states that new volumes will have a different title and be "First Editions." What criteria will the editor use to ask for an update or rewrite as the material becomes out-of-date or shown to be in error? This overview will be useful to libraries that have journals on aging and access to search programs that can guide consumers to more current information. General readers. F. Taira; Loyola University of Chicago
