Library Journal Review

This year marks the centennial of the Spanish-American War, which ended Spanish domination of Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines and launched the United States as a world power. This is not a complete history of the war but rather a detailed account of the naval and land battles, strategies, and operations from both the Spanish and American sides. The book is divided in two parts. The first half covers the war in the Atlantic, including the Cuban and Puerto Rican conflicts. The second half covers the war in the Pacific, which ended with the fall of Manila. Profusely illustrated with photographs and well organized in its presentation, this book excels among the many publications recently available on the subject. Recommended for public and academic libraries.‘Jorge Gonzalez (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
