Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:

Presents the basic chemistry of organo-transition metal complexes in the context of real synthetic applications. Examples of de novo syntheses of natural product molecules are used to illustrate the application of established reactivity patterns to organic synthesis. Explains reactivity phenomena by using frontier molecular orbital approaches. Discusses fundamental reactivity and bonding patterns while giving broad coverage of organometallic chemistry.

"A Wiley-Interscience publication."

Includes bibliographical references and index.

CHOICE Review

Within the past two decades, interest in organotransition metal complexes has grown dramatically because of their unusual structures, their applications in organic synthesis, and their use as industrial catalysts. Pearson is writing primarily for organic chemists who wish to learn more about this important class of compounds, but he suggests that the material is also appropriate for advanced undergraduates. Like James P. Collman and Louis S. Hegedus's Principles and Applications of Organotransition Metal Chemistry (1980), Pearson's book emphasizes patterns of reactivity and reaction mechanisms. Pearson organizes the reactions in terms of ligand type, and where possible includes a theoretical background based on the frontier molecular orbital method. The result is a sound overview that should be useful for the intended audiences, although the theory sections may be somewhat difficult for undergraduates. Good bibliographies that cover sources through early 1982 are provided with each chapter. The book should be considered by academic libraries that maintain a strong chemistry collection.-H.E.
