Booklist Review

One sure indication of a management trend is the sudden appearance of several books on a "new" topic. Just recently, leadership and customer service have both been the subject of a number of books. Currently, teams and teamwork have become a popular theme, with authors stressing the advantages of collaboration and cooperation. Parker, a human resources consultant, analyzes teams as a management resource from a sociological perspective. He describes what makes an effective team and what causes a team to be ineffective. He identifies four types of team members--contributor, challenger, communicator, and collaborator--and examines their roles. Parker also offers suggestions for managers and team leaders on how to improve team performance. Bibliography; to be indexed. --David Rouse
