CHOICE Review

This directory of ESL programs, now in its 9th edition, is made up of three sections: the first describes intensive ESL programs, the second postsecondary level ESL programs, and the third secondary level ESL programs. The heart of the book is found in the first and most extensive section, intensive ESL programs, which lists more than 380 programs by state and includes vital information about faculty, levels of instruction, housing, costs, etc., and provides addresses and telephone numbers for additional information. Included in the appendixes are helpful documents on program standards and recommendations provided by professional organizations in the field. This edition adds a section listing program starting dates, which will prove especially helpful to the student on a tight schedule looking for an appropriate program. Another addition is the use of direct advertisements provided by the institutions themselves. Most students viewing this book in American libraries have selected and are enrolled in a program, but it would be valuable to students considering a transfer or investigating alternative programs. Recommended for libraries serving ESL programs or serving individuals needing such programs. -C. Pracht, Southeast Missouri State University
