Booklist Review

Many of us in the library profession know and understand quite viscerally the power of a good story to engage an audience and illustrate a point more effectively than any chart or spreadsheet. Personal narrative has become increasingly appreciated in the business community, and this slim handbook brings it back to the library. In six informative, clear, involving chapters, author Marek outlines retooling stories to aid in leadership by communicating vision and values, using stories to navigate change and build communities, telling stories through architecture, and developing a skill set for choosing and telling effective stories. A lengthy resource list provides access to a wealth of materials, and chapter endnotes further expand sources of information. This persuasive manual is must-reading for public library directors and staffs.--Welton, An. Copyright 2010 Booklist
