CHOICE Review

This book, edited by Bento and Aggarwal (both, Univ. of Baltimore), is basically a collection of concept papers on cloud computing. Chapters focus on definitions of cloud computing, developmental methods, economic and legal perspectives, and security issues, written by different contributor-experts. The chapters are elemental modules for essentially novice consumers, ranging from industry practitioners to undergraduate students desiring to learn the cloud in a nutshell. The 18 chapters contain exhibits, figures and tables, readings, references, and frequently, key terminologies. The concepts discussed are easy to learn from a largely organized presentation. However, there is some duplication of content, due to the nature of this type of coverage. The book is inherently limited in practitioner studies, though readers may pursue such studies in other referenced research works on the topics. The number of contributors from industry and international institutions that provide further perspectives on the various subjects is helpful to readers. Those appreciating this book will be primarily consumer managers and practitioners rather than pure technologists. Overall, a timely primer resource for those who want to study the cloud topically. Summing Up: Recommended. Upper-division undergraduates and above. J. P. Lawler Pace University
