Since 1981, a grant-funded research group at the U. of Alberta has been creating disposal procedures for a wide variety of chemicals. The procedures are designed to enable chemicals to be recycled or disposed of in-house, eliminating the need to incinerate them or take them to a landfill. Disposal methods for heavy metal salts, explosive chemicals such as picric acid, and toxic organic materials are included.
