Library Journal Review

The authors, all librarians at the University of Nevada, Reno, clearly write from hard-earned experience. They combine a solid overview of issues related to managing e-journals with practical, nuts-and-bolts tips to make the job easier. Chapters include an introduction to e-journals, selection, technical issues, licensing and legal issues, the order process, cataloging and access, user services, and predictions for the future. The book concludes with several useful appendixes, including two sample collection policies and step-by-step instructions for using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word to process and produce lists of e-journals. The authors explain each topic clearly and concisely, without assuming too much prior knowledge on the part of the reader. The book is surprisingly current, including developments as recent as March 2000Dan important consideration given that electronic journals are evolving rapidly. Though written primarily for academic libraries, this book would be useful for any library grappling with the vexing problem of managing e-journals.DJanet A. Crum, Oregon Health Sciences Univ.
