CHOICE Review

This volume contains papers first presented at a 1991 conference in the UK. The contributors are overwhelmingly British and female. In her introduction and first chapter on developing women's presence, Tanton sets the overall theme--the importance of, and problems in, integrating female experience into management practice. The subjects discussed are quite varied: women's development programs, women bosses, managing emotion, motherhood and management, female entrepreneurs, women-only management training. There is one contribution from a man--a personal reflection on management learning and the white male heritage--and one from two non-British women on women managers in Turkey. Personal experiences of the authors are integral to many of the papers. This collection's focus on the UK experience allows US readers to understand that the experiences of women in management in the two countries have been quite similar, although the steps to equality seem to be occurring later in the UK. The authors cite British and US literature. Upper-division undergraduate through professional. F. Reitman; Pace University
