CHOICE Review

An annotated bibliography of 886 entries covering acid rain policy and scientific reports, as well as an array of public documents available through 1984. Coverage includes a variety of perspectives on the acid deposition problem. Some European material is included, but the majority of entries come from North American discussion. Stopp introduces this collection with a brief (three-page) explanatory essay describing the problem. Although this book is a useful collection of resource information, it would have been more useful if it had included a cross-referenced index by author. The book's index does serve as the device for topical cross-reference. The volume includes a table of the 150 National Atmospheric Deposition Program monitoring sites as well as a listing of participants in the NADP structure. This hardcover source is useful to those who do not have access to the search capability of an electronic database, but the continuing volume of publications produced on this topic force a librarian to view this type of reference as making a short-term contribution to any collection. Perhaps its greatest applicability is to public libraries.-M. Evans, SUNY Empire State College
