CHOICE Review

The papers gathered in this volume were originally presented at the 1983 annual meeting of the Canadian Professors for Peace in the Middle East. They are organized under two broad headings: ``The View from Inside'' presents papers dealing with Egyptian policy, Israeli domestic public opinion including political party positions, the Palestinian perspective, and, finally, a much less successful treatment of the Palestinians as refugees; ``The View from Outside'' presents critical treatments of US, Soviet, and Canadian policy. The volume concludes with a sober and balanced retrospective analysis of efforts at peacemaking. The subjects treated are covered comprehensively with the exception of the important subject of intra-Arab relations; the dynamics of these relations are essential to the peacemaking process and crucial to a more complete understanding of the conflicts of the Middle East. With the latter exception, this volume is useful for understanding peacemaking in the Middle East and is recommended for upper-division, graduate, and large public library collections.-L.J. Cantori, University of Maryland, Baltimore County
