She encourages young men who are able to do so to take an active part in the lives of their children but makes the commitment involved very clear. Chapters discuss economic considerations and alternatives to parenting as well as basic facts about pregnancy and childbirth itself. Color and black-and-white illustrations are well suited to the accompanying text; extra leading, enlarged type, and spacious margins, along with a scattering of anecdotes, make the material more approachable.Using the usual psychojargon sparingly, Septien manages a lucid, straightforward, surprisingly inclusive summary of codependency, a trendy self-help topic that's usually strictly the province of adults.
