School Library Journal Review

Gr 4-6-A loving tribute to the great humanitarian. The story of Schweitzer's selfless dedication to world peace, arms reduction, health care, human and animal rights, and the protection of the environment is told with the hope that today's readers will be inspired by his example. A preface by his daughter, generous use of quotations from his writings, and the good-quality black-and-white photographs scattered throughout help to make this renowned but unassuming man come to life. In this readable account, Robles emphasizes the principle of ``Reverence for Life'' that was the compelling force behind all of Schweitzer's words and actions. A good bibliography and index make this a useful source for reports as well as an excellent choice for pleasure reading.-Eunice Weech, M.L. King Elementary School, Urbana, IL (c) Copyright 2010.
