Library Journal Review

This reference (the first edition appeared in 1991) contains important information on 574 grantmaking foundations and 28 direct corporate-giving programs that have shown a ``substantial interest'' in libraries. Grants totaling over $103 million in support for a variety of libraries and information services are listed for 274 of the foundations in the volume. Entries, which include up to 32 basic data elements, are arranged alphabetically by state and, within state, by foundation name. Five indexes to the work are provided, as are a glossary of terms used by grantmakers and grantseekers and a bibliography of publications on funding for libraries and information services. Although the guide contains a wealth of information useful to libraries seeking outside sources of funding, its cost, unfortunately, may prohibit small libraries in financial need from purchasing it.-- Carolyn A.
