CHOICE Review

In an effort to provide a single, all-encompassing, reliable, multicultural source for international military history and biography, the publisher has chosen the most useful entries from its six-volume ($1,250) International Military and Defense Encyclopedia, ed. by Trevor Dupuy et al. (CH, May'93), for presentation in a single, economical source one-third the size. Comparing well in scope and coverage with the parent encyclopedia, the current work features alphabetically arranged histories and biographies from the Afghan wars to WW II and from Alexander the Great to Marshal Zhukov, updated to include the Persian Gulf War. Nearly every article closes with a bibliography and see also cross-referencing; a nicely crafted 76-page index significantly enhances utilization of the A-Z data presentation.
