Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:
Possibly the subjects of the portraits and some well-situated friends and family of the author/artist will figure their money well spent for this book. A former graphic designer, Maltese was asked by New York's "Columbus Countdown: 1992" committee chair to create a commemorative portrait of Christopher Columbus. After producing an idealized image of Columbus, Maltese decided to paint imagined portraits, all reproduced here, of various historical explorers, as well as Queen Isabella. She created the images by doing portraits of various businessmen, a judge, and a New York woman of Norwegian descent showing them in Renaissance garb. Maltese recounts her feelings as she painted the series, and, for the few who might be interested, she includes biographies and photographs of the New Yorkers who posed for her. Annotation c.
