Lane excellently provides the methodology for preparation and installation of microcomputer equipment in a library setting. Usually, this kind of book is too technical or too specific to be useful to many people. Lane's, however, strikes a careful balance, using clear, easily followed language in presenting methods of evaluating needs, orientation, and preventive maintenance. Most of the information is generic enough to be helpful to DOS, Apple, and Macintosh users alike. In addition to being useful for all librarians considering automation of a small library for the first time, it also would make a great course text for new librarians. ~--Patrick Dewey
