CHOICE Review

Koppes et al. offer contributions by 28 specialists of industrial-organizational psychology (I-O), presenting the 18 essays in six parts: "The Beginning," "Historical Overviews," "Educational, Organizational, and Military Influences," "Early Topics," "Later Topics," and "Reflections and Future." Appendixes list historical resources and provide a time line of events and developments in the US. The book is structured around substantive topics rather than professional areas, and though the topical history follows traditional presentation (i.e., offering what/when/who of events), many chapters also provide an analytical review of the current state of knowledge. Thus, this book is as much textbook as history. The book is exceptional for its rich, stimulating, and well-documented presentation of I-O. It will be a valuable resource for those interested not only in I-O but also in the history of psychology, human resource management, organizational behavior, and public administration. Each essay includes references and footnotes. ^BSumming Up: Recommended. Lower-/upper-division undergraduates through faculty and professionals. D. Sydiaha emeritus, University of Saskatchewan
