CHOICE Review

The text thoroughly covers the whole range of ramifications of special education law including both IDEA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The addition of Section 504 is extremely critical as the use of this law is in the forefront of litigation involving public schools. Chapters are devoted to the main sections of the IDEA and 504 legislation, with each chapter detailing the requirements of the statutes as well as the litigation that has evolved from those sections of the act. The uniqueness of the text is found in the writing styles of the authors. The text is written in layman's language which makes it easily understood by the practicing school administrator. Each section is thoroughly cross-referenced to sections of the statutes discussed and to relevant court cases, making it a handy reference for school district attorneys. The text concludes with a chapter that introduces the Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities Act (now a subchapter of IDEA) that utilizes a multiagency approach to providing services to this population. The book is highly recommended as a text for students of special education law and as a reference work for school administrators and for attorneys specializing in school law who have to implement the difficult requirements of the statutes discussed.
