Public Administration in the Global Village offers a global and comparative approach to the study of public administration. It examines the ongoing international changes in the field of public administration; it defines the emerging new world order and the promises and challenges that it holds for public administration; and it stipulates the effects and side effects of these changes on developing countries. The volume seeks to promote a global and comparative perspective on public administration to counter the continuing parochialism and ethnocentrism in the field.
Includes bibliographical references (p. [169]-181) and index.

CHOICE Review
This is the first of a new wave of books to emerge in the field of comparative public administration in the age of the global village. It provides a useful, brief introduction to the history of the field but more importantly calls for a new approach to the discipline. It illustrates this approach, being coedited by a pair of international scholars and incorporating chapters by well-known authorities in the comparative administration field including Ferrel Heady and Fred Riggs. Four theoretical chapters break new ground, provoking and challenging the reader to think in new ways rather than systematically constructing comprehensive new theories. Four "case studies" describe interesting situations, but they do not always serve to illustrate points raised in the first four theoretical chapters. Rather, the case studies focus on development administration, which is only one concern in global public administration, albeit an important one. This book will be valuable for graduate courses in public administration and as a reference book. M. A. Saint-Germain; University of Texas at El PasoNotas de autor provistas por Syndetics
