This examination of international banking from the perspective of the US begins with a brief history of the development of international operations of US banks in the 20th century and ends with a look at major issues and their implications for international banking in the future. In between the author presents glossarylike descriptions of concepts, terms, practices, and institutions associated with banking activities across national boundaries. The topics covered include world financial markets and banking centers, management of foreign exchange, factors considered in assessing risks of lending in foreign countries, types of multinational banking services, the participants in and structural alternatives for project financing, and international financial institutions. Little analysis and interpretation are provided. The volume probably will find limited use as a reference for academic and practicing specialists in international finance.
