Booklist Review

Virtual reference has gone from an exciting new experiment to an expected part of reference services in just a few years. This book is intended to fill the gap between the Guidelines for Implementing and Maintaining Virtual Reference Services, published by RUSA in 2004, and implementation in your library. It contains exercises, worksheets, and field reports to help move from the abstract to practical points of setting up various virtual-reference services, including e-mail, chat, IM, voice-over-IP, and videoconferencing, in a way that best fits the needs of patrons. The worksheets and thoughtful exercises will be helpful for whatever library committee or group is working on virtual reference. The RUSA guidelines are included as an appendix.--O'Gorman, Jack Copyright 2008 Booklist
