CHOICE Review

Edited by two prolific young exercise scientists (both, Univ. of Nebraska), this overview of the various fields within the broad area of exercise science provides sections on history, anatomy, athletic training, biomechanics, physiology, nutrition, psychology, measurement, and motor control and motor learning. Unlike many edited compilations, the chapters here are organized logically and similarly; each features a summary, glossary, study questions, suggested readings, and references, including a few as recent as 1998. Each author has gone into enough detail to challenge and interest readers without overpowering or confusing them. Designed for use in an introductory undergraduate course for kinesiology majors, this book serves the purpose well. One need not be a "scientist" to enjoy this text: it is recommended for academic and public libraries as a wonderful resource for any individual interested in learning just what "exercise science" is all about. All levels. D. W. Hill; University of North Texas
