CHOICE Review

Organized in three main sections, this collection offers a broad review of the history, economics, and social impacts of legalized casino gaming in the US. Articles chosen by editor Hsu (Kansas State Univ.) reflect a variety of perspectives, and each is accompanied by a useful, detailed bibliography that directs the reader to further resources. Dealing mainly with Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Native American casino gaming, and riverboat and land-based gaming, this work is one of the few policy-oriented reviews on the subject. Casino gaming has become a more widely accepted family vacation activity, making such a resource for policy study of particular importance. As such, this collection will be valuable to graduate students of tourism and hospitality, and to researchers and policy makers. Although outside the editor's scope of coverage, this reviewer would have welcomed some discussion of the international dimension of casino gaming, which can perhaps be the topic of a second volume.
