Library Journal Review

This collection of ready-to-use workshops for library staff and patrons includes a three-part train-the-trainer session and a three-part session introducing HTML, plus four individual sessionsÄGetting Started on the World Wide Web, Using Search Engines and Finding Information on the Web, Books and Literature on the Web, and College Information on the Web. The sessions emphasize basic skills and hands-on learning. Most are designed to last 60 to 90 minutes, though several would likely exceed the allotted time period. Each workshop includes an overview for the trainer, an agenda, a sample script with detailed descriptions of activities and timing, and handouts. The workshops are fast-paced, well organized, and interesting. This book is a great starting point for novice trainers and would be especially useful for libraries just now developing Internet training programs. The author, formerly a technology trainer and Internet librarian at the New York Public Library, currently works for Microsoft. Recommended.ÄJanet A. Crum, Oregon Health Sciences Univ.
