CHOICE Review

As a resource guide to the history and culture of American women, this Library of Congress (LC) publication is outstanding. Chapters feature holdings of various LC divisions--manuscripts, music, maps, rare books, and special collections. Five essays show the research potential of the sources. The photographs and other images demonstrate the diversity of American women and seize readers' attention first, but their strength is well matched by the authoritative text, which combines how-to detail with intriguing insights. As a guide to resources, this work is logically organized and loaded with useful information. Shaded sidebars list appropriate LC subject headings, topical bibliographies, and search tips. Highly recommended. P. Palmer University of Memphis
