Booklist Review

Greiner and Cooper have produced a useful manual that will help analyze collection strengths and weaknesses and enable practitioners to make the most of data provided by their system administrators. While acknowledging that there are many ways to analyze collections and that analysis does not tell anyone what to do, only what to consider, they encourage yearly assessments for comparative purposes and to maintain responsiveness to users' needs. This is definitely a how-to manual, with step-by-step directions for entering data (or using data readily available from the IT folks) to create meaningful presentations to justify collection-management decisions. Chapters cover Excel basics as well as downloading and cleaning up data, analyzing circulation, and more. Although the samples use Excel 3, the overall ideas are meant to be independent of the software.--Jane, Sally Copyright 2007 Booklist
