As here related, in an intensely moving passage written shortly before his death on Easter Sunday 1955,the author's superiors and other influences wanted to confine him to science; he escaped the confinement to turn the force of his genius –like Pascal and Newton– also on to Christ. The result, as witnessed by the essays which constitute this book (the chronological succesor to Writings in Time of War), offer an outline–indeed,a prophetic vision–of Christian philosophy for our time: a plea for a complete re-thinking of our whole outlook on Christianity in the light of the scientists' concept of a dynamically moving universe. Religion and science are not merely reconciled, but indissolubly linked as two aspects of adoration of the divine. Science and Christ throws fresh light on the Phenomenon of Man and Le Milieu Divin. The great paæontogist proved to be one.--Jacket desing by Kenneth Farnhill.
