Thesis ( Master of Science in Chemistry) Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico ,2018.

The focus of this study was to evaluate the effects of Cadmium Sulfide , Cadmium Sulfide Selenide, and Cadmium Sulfide Telluride QDs on cell viability and cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A1, 2C9, and 3A4 of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells. The exposition of organisms to QDs can result in negative effects in their organs, tissues , cells, and immune system due to their production of reactive oxygen species. By culturing CHO cells with Cadmium- based QDs , it was demostrated that the QDs were cytotoxic to the cells and the effect was dependent on the QDs concentration. Microscopy examination showed a strong green fluorescence of the CdSSe QDsindicating a possible incorporation of the QDsinside the cells.
