Design in the Terrain of Water distinguishes two waters: water that is somewhere, framed, held in place and separated from land ; and waters that are everywhere, challenging conventional representation and demanding invention. The book is structured as a dialogue between these two waters, which are visualized as horizons in the works and reflections of contributors from a range of disciplines and occupying diverse geographies. Water in this collaboration is not an element to extract, embellishment to design, or a commodity that is scarce. Rather, it is a terrain that challenges assumptions, remind us of our fallibity, accommodates complexity, and political and geographic dynamics, and submerges boundaries between places and disciplines. As a collection of visual and textual essays, this book presents a way to image, imagine, bild, and advocate design in the terrain of water. --
