School Library Journal Review

K-Gr 3 Set to the tune of ``On Top of Old Smokey,'' this poem tells of making The World's Biggest Birthday Cake. Using 25 bathtubs as mixing bowls and a volcano as a heat source, the cake is made and then decorated with, among other things, a circus, a zoo and streetlamps for candles. After the cake is eaten, only the dishes and birthday good wishes remain. The musicmelody line only, plus guitar and autoharp chordsare included at the end. Although at times it is difficult to match the words to the tune, this is otherwise a clever ``piggy - back song.'' Each two-page spread features one verse and either a single or double-page illustration. The illustrations are done in full-color, cartoon style and add lots of detail and humor to the song. Large enough to share with a group, this will be a nice addition to programs on birthdays.Charlotte Lesser, Monmouth County Library, Freehold, N.J. (c) Copyright 2010.
