Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:

A general introduction to international law in its political and historical context, this work identifies the ideological motivations behind legal rules and institutions. Covering several issues seldom explored by other commentators, such as the historical evolution of the international community and the fundamental principles governing international law of economic interaction, the book provides an excellent introduction to the complexities of this topic.

CHOICE Review

A treatise on contemporary international law intended to promote understanding of the role of law in today's world community. The author, a prominent Italian legal scholar, attempts to combine a legal positivist approach with a historian's insight to flush out current developments in international legal norms. His approach might be seen as progressive by some. He argues that the appearance of socialist powers after the Russian revolution in 1917 and the emergence of the Third World after WW II altered the traditional structure of public international law. Customary practice has given way to new thinking. Noncoercive means to ensure the rule of law lead to discussions on human rights and jus in bello. Cassese also has a section on current thinking on international economic relations. His approach and ideas are, admittedly, in keeping with those of the school of thought outlined in The Future of the International Legal Order, ed. by Cyril A. Black and Richard A. Falk, 1969). Essential for all students of contemporary international law who are interested in current thought and developments. Recommended for upper-division and graduate students.-S.R.
