Booklist Review

Gr. 7-12. Part of the Encyclopedia of Health series, Edelson's text begins by exploring various theories of aging, suggesting that the process is related to habits begun in youth. The author then goes on to discuss aging as it affects both body and mind. He includes information on the role nutrition plays in the process and the effects growing older have on the senses. He also takes a look at societal issues--among them, medical treatment of the elderly and financial considerations related to elder care. His book is a well-rounded survey of an issue that concerns the scientific and medical communities as well as the government, and one that students are researching to a greater and greater extent these days. A glossary, further readings, and a list of resource agencies are appended. ~--Patricia Braun
