Descripciones mejoradas de Syndetics:

A collection of six plays, which are best described as shocking, sizzling and outrageous. Pinero finds comedy, hilarity, paradox and pathos in such unlikely places as subway toilets, pimp bars, drug "shooting galleries", crowded tenements and in the writer's own struggles with his Smith-Corona and penury.

CHOICE Review

The title of this collection of six one-act pieces by the ``former felon'' Pinero says a great deal about its author's employment of languages; streetwise, his usage is perfectly appropriate to his settings, which in this case include a subway toilet and a shooting gallery. Pinero's ear for gutter speech is superb, though it must be observed that his notions of what other classes sound like are secondhand and seem more parodistic than fully understood. (In Pinero's world, the Puerto Rican learns English from US blacks.) If his targets are often sitting ducks, however, Pinero's portraits of contemporary urban society are dead-on; and his critiques of today's America, apparently heavily Shepard-influenced, are valid in spite of a disinterest in the creation of character-or an inability to do so. Writer of the well-known Short Eyes (CH, Oct '75) and the full-length play collection The Sun Always Shines on the Cool (1984), Pinero has also successfully written for the TV market. But this drama volume reveals him to have both a comic flair and a sensibility capable of revealing those demons that haunt, that beset, our times and their finest minds. This collection will interest many followers of the theater of our time, however poorly it has been served by its editors and proofreaders and however much it remains to be seen how some of these works will actually ``play.''
