Library Journal Review

A potpourri of historical trivia on everything from U.S. presidents to outlaws to ingenuity, this compendium comprises hundreds of brief vignettes that offer often fascinating, obscure facts. More for browsing than reference, this may still provide readers (and librarians) with the answers to some sticky historical trivia questions: Whatever happened to the table at which Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee signed the surrender at Appomatox? Who invented Silly Putty? Buy where this type of book is popular.--Francine Fialkoff, ``Library Journal'' (c) Copyright 2010. Booklist Review

A potpourri of history Reader's Digest style. Stories of presidents, outlaws, adventurers, couturiers, inventors, and millionaires fill the pages of this entertaining volume. There is no attempt at total coverage of an issue or an era. However, the first chapter is a chronological index by month, then year, which will be invaluable for the many on-this-day-in-history researchers. The remaining eight chapters offer brief vignettes, explanations, historic anomalies, and quotations. The text is similar in tone to that of its popular sponsoring monthly. Index. --Denise Perry Donavin
