Booklist Review

Hickman, author of Mind of a Manager, Soul of a Leader (Wiley, 1990), argues that the role of anyone responsible for managing an organization is to raise questions and to challenge oneself and one's co-workers--peers, subordinates, and superiors. Hickman offers 50 questions to help one get back to basics and make certain one's actions are directed toward accomplishing the organization's mission. He poses five questions in each of 10 categories--customers, quality, service, advantage, talent, motivation, trust, technology, alliances, and costs--and provides possible answers in the form of informative and fascinating case studies. Hickman's book is a helpful starting point for getting people to talk--and to think about what they do and why they do it. ~--David Rouse
